What is the difference between copy editing and proofreading?

A copy editor has a sharp eye to check grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization and formatting. Their job is to ensure that statements flow logically like gatekeepers who uphold a publication’s tone and style rules. 
A proofreader is the final set of eyes to check inconsistent headers and subheads, page numbers and breaks, or placement of visual assets like a table or charts. Proofreaders are charged with cleaning up mechanical inconsistencies or in layman’s English…does the page look right?
